We are fortunate to have access to such a complex & hyper-curated coffee experience. An expression that tests the limits of what coffee can be & a reputation to boot. Recently, winning 3rd overall in the World Barista Championship (2024 - Brewed by Mathieu Theis of Mame Coffee). Then, later in 2024 it took home 4 gold medals in Golden Bean The Americas (The Largest Roasting Competition in the World) outpacing hundreds of other amazing coffees. "Best coffee I've ever had" is thrown around casually when tasting & sharing with friends.
Julio Madrid & Julio Quiceno are friends of the Reprise sourcing team. They are intelligent producers that operate, what has become, a world renowned farm in Colombia - Finca Milan. The Natural Culturing process is nothing short of a science experiment. Creating "cultures" (think microbes & yeasts) from fermenting fruits (in this case Watermelon) & utilizing them in the coffees fermentation. This process is done in a controlled & anaerobic environment with constant measurements of Ph, temperature & time. This Caturra variety was fermented for 84 hours & is fully imbued with the candied sweetness of ripe, juicy watermelons. The taste is as perplexing as it is delicious.
